History of Cafe 24 Park:
Chittagong Cantonment, one of the largest cantonments of the Bangladesh Army, had no indoor recreation center for the entertainment of all rank and file members and depended on various parks in the city center to relieve the boredom and fatigue of the busy life. Besides, in 2013, in order to refresh the soldiers after the tough training at the nearby Training Center Complex-24, with the visionary idea of the then GOC Major General Sabbir Ahmed, OSP, SGP, NDC, PSC, under the constant supervision of 18 Engineer Battalion in a very short time called Cafe-24.
Coffee shops, tree houses and restaurants are built in the area. Later, a 1.6 km long walking path and a scenic multipurpose hall were constructed around the hill as a recreational center surrounded by mountains and dense forests on three sides. Aviary, boat club and adventure trail are established to make the park more aesthetic. The park is now completely safe and open to the public as it is slowly being rehabilitated.
Later, maintaining the same continuity, in 2015 Major General Md. Shafiqur Rahman, SPP, AFWC, PSC and in 2016, Major General Md. Jahangir Kabir Talukder, SUP, AWC, PSC, provided integrated directions for the beautification of the park. As per the instructions, new picnic spots and lakes were constructed to increase the quality and recreational facilities of the park. Col. Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmood, SGP, AFWC, PSC, was instrumental in the full implementation and expansion of the plan. Cafe 24 today has gained a reputation as a safe and attractive entertainment center in the military and civilian circles, especially among Hathazari-Bhatiyari-Chittagong residents.
